Irene Ryan Package: Shaw and Moliere

Wendy A. Crum* and Sydney L. Pentzer
Dr. Jonathan Wehmeyer, Faculty Mentor

The Irene Ryan Competitive Acting Scholarship celebrates students' dedication to their craft. An Irene Ryan package consists of a monologue and a scene with a partner that takes place within four minutes. The scene and the monologue tend to be contrasting pieces to showcase the range of the actor. In this performance, there will be a monologue from St. Joan by George Bernard Shaw, and a scene from Tartuffe by Moliere. Shaw and Moliere have different styles of writing, one in realism and the other in neoclassical. The actors bring these two scenes to life using different acting techniques like Commedia dell’Arte. To be considered for the Scholarship, a student is nominated by representatives of the Kenedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) of that region, or by self-nomination.
