Directing "Ride the Cyclone"

Regan D. Bohanan
Dr. Jonathan Wehmeyer, Faculty Mentor

Ride the Cyclone, by Jacob Richmond and Brooke Maxwell, is a show about kids who died young during a school trip. While stuck in the afterlife, they have to choose who to bring back. After a long trial of song and dance, they realize that they don't truly know who their friends are. How could you know someone for so long and not know that they are entirely different than what you thought? My approach to this while I was directing was the individuality of everyone. I pushed this idea with my team by using costumes, sound, lights, and props to show how everyone in the show is different from each other. It was essential to show who each character truly is and their deepest desires in life. After working with everyone, it turned into a beautiful experience that everyone could watch and enjoy.
