The Adoption of Financial Services and Technology (FinTech)

Justin T. Olwig*, Miles McIntyre, and Caden Hoehns
Prof. Charles Boughton , Faculty Mentor

Our topic is relevant but isn’t the most well known. It impacts individuals' everyday lives, maybe even more than one time a day. Individuals use it all the time but might not know what to call it. It's become second nature. The trend is the integration of technology into the financial services industry, also known as fintech. Examples include Robinhood (an investment app), CashApp, and Binance (a cryptocurrency exchange). Some examples of fintech applications are digital banking platforms on phones/computers which allows you to move money between accounts and invest in the stock market within seconds, a phone call with an advisor or broker is no longer necessary. The goal of our paper is to inform the reader about the different sectors of fintech and explain the benefits but also touch on the negative impacts. Our thesis is that fintech has some negative impacts but the pros outweigh the cons.
