Raiden D. Petty*, Alex Eby, and CJ Wenom
Prof. Charles Boughton , Faculty Mentor

This research paper serves to explore the impact of fintech on retail investing. Contemporary investors have more options than ever before to invest in a vast array of asset classes and securities. The development and implementation of fintech in modern society has granted retail investors opportunities that were originally reserved for institutions and well-connected investors. It’s not just the availability of these services that has been developed, fintech has expanded accessibility, enabling everyday investors to participate with minimal experience. This paper will explore specific ways that the development of fintech products has affected retail investing including more accessible investing methods, alternative investing methods, retail investment mentality, and the overall relationship between cutting edge financial technology and retail investors. In communicating these topics, we will also provide an overview of the retail financial technology industry ecosystem. Finally, we discuss potential future developments and their implications for retail investors.
