Background: Caffeine is recognized as an ergogenic aid to enhance athletic performance and consumed in multiple forms. With multiple forms, it is difficult to understand the amount of caffeine consumed daily. Caffeine is used to improve mental focus, reaction times, and accuracy. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the amount of caffeine consumed by athletes and the method of obtaining nutritional information regarding caffeine. Methods: A quantitative questionnaire was distributed to Division II athletes. Results: Respondents reported (52%) consuming caffeine to increase energy levels, with energy drinks (64%) being most common. Fifty-one percent of respondents indicated social media as the source for educational content. While subjects felt informed about caffeine effects, 74% indicated they would benefit from reputable informational sessions. Discussion: Most athletes are not obtaining reputable information about the effects of caffeine but use it daily as a stimulant. Organizations should offer nutritional sessions so appropriate information is disseminated.
