Modifying Undergraduate Organic Chemistry Labs in Light of the Dichloromethane Ban
The Environmental Protection Agency recently banned dichloromethane from teaching and research labs because of its proven negative effects on health. Two of Truman’s organic chemistry labs use this solvent in its procedures. Alternative solvents have been explored for the extraction of eugenol from ground cloves and the chromatographic separation of ferrocene and acetylferrocene.
