How Does Using Positive Behavior Interventions and Support to Manage Student Behavior in Schools, Enhance Student Engagement in Learning?

Stephanie A. Jones
Prof. Jeanne Harding, Faculty Mentor

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a framework designed to promote positive behavior in schools by teaching expectations and providing structured support. By focusing on prevention, PBIS fosters a safe learning environment that encourages student success. Managing student behavior effectively remains a challenge in many schools, influencing both engagement and academic performance. Understanding how PBIS influences behavior and learning is crucial for educators implementing these strategies. The research examines PBIS from educational and psychological perspectives and explores its impact on behavior, engagement, and learning. Through analysis of behavioral changes, the research seeks to determine the effectiveness of PBIS and uncover the factors contributing to its success or limitations. This study will discuss findings on how behavior changes based on the implementation of PBIS in public schools, and if the data concludes that these interventions are working, I intend to engage in an interdisciplinary discussion of why or why not.
