Changing Ground: The Evolution of Small Farming in Chariton County, Missouri
Roger W. Meissen
Dr. Matthew Killmeier, Faculty Mentor

Farming is an ever-evolving occupation. Current practitioners are required to adapt regularly to a fickle market and changing demands. Through individual interviews I aim to portray small to mid-size farmers using a photo-documentary style. Focus will be given to the changing structure of family involvement within so-called family farms. This presentation will help grasp the lifestyle and struggles incurred by a slowly decreasing sector of the farming community in Chariton County. A secondary focus aims to portray the effect that declining number of farmers have on communities in the county.
