Skagboys: Constructing Scottish National Identity
Abstract: By the deft construction of Scottish national identity through Scottish vernacular, structural choices and cynical junkie characters, the 2012 novel Skagboys makes its unique and creative attempts to showcase the identity crisis the Scottish people are faced with and to foreshadow the tragedies in its sequel Trainspotting. The Scottish writer Irvine Welsh paints a panoramic view of Scotland where people are in dire need of a sense of belonging and an identity to hold onto.
