Concepting: Developing a Body of Illustrations for Visualization
Thomas J. Marrone
Prof. Russell Nelson, Faculty Mentor

The artist intends to present a display of his illustration work for the conference. The presentation will be composed of a body of concept design sketches created as an exercise in production design for a hypothetical film. Using the Honor Harrington series of books by David Weber as source material, the artist will create dozens of sketches of props, characters, places, and events from the book On Basilisk Station, as if that book were being made into a movie. The goal is to explore idea development through the visualization process, and to create a large body of illustrations that are all connected in concept and purpose without being entirely narrative. The original sketchbook will be on display, along with special large scale posters which will serve to link the source text with the illustrations.
