Gender and Leadership Characteristics
This research attempts to find what characteristics people relate to leadership, and whether these perceptions are related to the gender of the leader. Truman State University students in various classes were asked to rate (on a seven-point scale) the importance of a variety of leadership characteristics for a given CEO, including descriptions such as authoritative, compassionate, confidant, violent, assertive, and attractive. Four different CEO profiles were tested (in four variations of the same survey), alternating both the gender of the leader and the financial state of the company.
