How Tall is too Tall? The Effect of an Individual's Height on the Probability of a Romantic Relationship

Describe your ideal life partner... What is most attractive about them? While everyone has their dating preferences, not many people stop to think why they are attracted to certain features. Society defines “beauty” and “attractiveness” but it also affects our perception of height. This project addresses that issue by studying the impact of one’s height on the willingness of individuals to enter into romantic relationships. Utilizing a survey distributed to the entire student population of Truman State University, I analyzed male and female opinions about the socially accepted male-taller norm and how it applies to relationships. Results show that the majority of respondents (95.01%) are more comfortable in relations that conform to the norm. However, when broken down by gender, males are more willing to enter into a female-taller relationship that breaks the norm than females are (53.5% to 34.2%).
