Rereading Jane Austen: A Feminist Approach to Emma.

Marissa R. Albracht
Dr. Hena Ahmad, Faculty Mentor

Jane Austen has been credited with implementing themes comparable with eighteenth-century feminism because her novels question societal masculine assumptions. While Austen takes a softer approach to eighteenth-century feminism, she still portrays a feminist stance through the personalities and decisions of her female characters as well as by the characterization of men. Placing Austen in her historical context, my paper will analyze Austen’s novel Emma through a feminist lens.
