Religion and The Devil Wears Prada

Devin R. Gant
Dr. Dereck Daschke, Faculty Mentor

The basic premise behind this work is that religious elements can be detected in films even when they are not presented as inherently religious. The Devil Wears Prada is a film that presents fashion itself as a religion that all people subscribe to, it tells the sacrifice and redemption story of Andy Sachs, and gives us a look into the Prada wearing Devil herself, Miranda Priestly. By identifying the religious elements in this film, it is possible to view it in a new light and see the religious influence in a film about the fashion industry that at first glance, does not appear to be religious.
