Exploring the Superpowers of Autistic people

Dr. Hena Ahmad, Faculty Mentor
When I watched the movie Rain Man, I found that although Raymond suffered from the disability of autism, his use of memory and other cognitive functions was superior than many ordinary people; he never forgot what he saw. People with autism struggle with interpersonal communication; some suffer from awkward social behavioral issues and narrow interests in hobbies, and they often live in their own world, having less contact with society. This paper will explore the struggles of people with autism, the special skills that people with autism possess and how they are often better than those of ordinary people, and will show that if society can utilize the skills of autistic people efficiently, our world will become a better place.
