Kinetics of m-cresol sulfate
Evan S. Forbes
Dr. Amy Fuller, Faculty Mentor
Sulfate esters have been found in noticeable concentrations in the lower atmosphere, however, their impact is unknown. Understanding the longevity and stability of these molecules is crucial in deciphering their role in the atmosphere. The kinetics of the aqueous hydrolysis of m-cresol sulfate, a representative sulfate ester, is being examined using H1NMR spectroscopy. The results will be added to the overall investigation of sulfate esters being conducted by Truman State University and the University of Iowa.
