Object Portraits

People often say to ignore the little things and look at the big picture. But I see the big picture through the details. For me a trip up the stairs is not just the passage between point A and point B, it is the way the railings overlap, the shine of the tiles, the simplistic complexity of the door hinges, the way the steam billows from the power plant outside the window. The definition of a stairwell may be its function but its structure makes it noteworthy. These are the moments, the things hiding in plain sight that catch my eye that I strive to bring out in my photography. By shooting in a documentary style to create portraits of ordinary mechanisms and architectural details, I hope to both emphasize their unobtrusive everydayness as well as portray their significance in my visual experience and call attention to their intricate geometry.
