Kirksville Ghost Tour: A Look at the Legends and Myths that Surround Truman State University and Kirksville, MO
Alexandra S. Timmer
Dr. Sara Orel, Faculty Mentor

Kirksville looks like a the average, quiet college town nestled in America's Midwest, but with just a little digging and a keen eye for the unusual, it is clear that Kirksville is nothing like a commonplace, rural community. Within Kirksville and TSU there lies ghostly activity, urban legends, and dark historical truths. This town has seen its fair share of the abnormal. It's safe to say that sometimes the smallest towns have the biggest secrets. This presentation will explore the dark history and folklore that surrounds Kirksville and Truman and bring it into the twenty-first century through the use of social media, along with an interactive website that contains a map, newspaper articles, photos, and a printable brochure that leads you on a walking tour of the major myths and legends. This presentation and project was created for the final project for Dr. Orels ART 428: Museum Studies class.
