The Effect of Nuclear Power on Economic Prosperity
Hiroki Sato
Dr. Terry Olson, Faculty Mentor

A number of empirical studies have showed that there is a strong correlation between energy consumption and economic prosperity. It connotes that the energy supply has to increase so as to meet the increased energy consumption which promotes economic growth. It leads to the assumption that the energy production must be a fundamentally crucial engine on economic growth and economic prosperity. Considering the merits and demerits of different types of energy sources, this research project speculated that nuclear energy would have the most significant effect on economic growth and economic prosperity of a nation on account of its extraordinary cost-efficiency, in the condition that a serious nuclear accident would not occur. This project conducted a cross-national regression analysis by Shazam to test the hypothesis, and the test result indicated that nuclear energy certainly had the strongest impact on economic prosperity of a nation than any other types of energy sources.
