Spain, Meet Kirksville
Kristin R. Marshall
Prof. Priya S. Kambli, Faculty Mentor
Four months ago, I walked into a room where everyone spoke English. It was the first time in 18 weeks that I understood everything everyone was saying. Such was the feeling of my return after my semester spent in Spain. Reentry into America was tough, to say the least, as I fell flat on my face in love with the Spanish way of life. Their emphasis on family, ability to enjoy company and appreciation for rest was a glimpse of what life should be. Over there, I had it all. You can thus imagine my surprise when I began discovering endless tidbits of Spain that reflected themselves in the culture of Kirksville and surrounding areas. Our lives are full of elements that have been directly or indirectly influenced by Spain. This collection is a humble display of the subtle integration of all things Spanish into our rural microcosm.
