Volunteer Pregnancy Counseling and Education Program
Emily M. Forsyth*, Sarah B. Cooper, and Jennifer L. Miller
Dr. Carol Cox, Faculty Mentor

Gamma Rho has provided numerous volunteers for The Lifeline Pregnancy Care Center, serving Northeast Missouri. Care Net staff trained interested chapter members. Once trained, qualified volunteers work with the Lifeline staff doing secretarial work, counseling, and abstinence education. Gamma Rho volunteers learned how to address to the unique needs of each person seeking assistance; and how to properly counsel both men and women concerning pregnancy, sexual intercourse, and parenting. Members also administered supplies to those needing assistance. Due to support by the Gammans, the outreach of Lifeline has increased. The support provided by Gammans is viewed as a vital part of the community. Volunteers continue to mentor and support the clients by maintaining close contact. Health Educators can provide physical, social, spiritual and emotional care for parenting and clients faced with crisis pregnancy situations; and are prepared to address sexual issues in future patients.
