Dvorak Romance for Violin Op. 11: Andante con moto
Carlye S. Kleczkowski
Dr. Sam McClure, Faculty Mentor
Antonin Dvorak wrote Romance For Violin in F minor Op. 11 in 1873 which was also the same year as his third symphony and his string quartets in A and F minor. The piece features a double exposition with the gentle first subject, which also appears in the slow movement of his F minor quartet, being first stated by the orchestra and then by the violin. The second subject recalls a theme from the second movement of Schubert's Second Symphony with the material being developed by elaborate figuration by the violin before the first melody is restated in the final key of F as the piece draws to a close.
