Social Media "Celebrities"

Social media sites such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitter (among others) have brought about a new generation of social media celebrities. Recent social media stars have become well known as a direct result of these sites. Many individuals and companies have used this new phenomenon of online-generated fame to benefit themselves, while others have become victim to it. These positive and negative aspects of this social media created celebrity culture will be discussed. Social media users' motivations for following these social media celebrities will also be explored.
