Word problems were personalized for students at Moberly Area Community College. Students in a College Algebra class were surveyed and their biographical data was used to create word problems that they could relate to, in hopes of higher performance. Two trials were done with the class. The study consisted of an experimental group with personalized problems and a control group with standard problems. The mean scores of the personalized exams were better in both trials. After a t-test analysis, there was no significant difference between the mean of the students scores, possibly due to a small sample size.
