2009 Student Research Conference:
22nd Annual Student Research Conference

Gecko Mathematics and the Obama Administration
Kierra E. Cornell

I hope to answer these questions: Will Obama's educational stimulus package impact important research in education? Can Obama's educational stimulus package introduce proven innovations to small and/or large groups of students and teachers? Getting innovative instructional models out to professional educators and students requires testing in micro and macro field settings, and such testing requires monetary resources. Obama's stimulus package includes big plans for education. Is there room in that plan for educational research that can bring innovative reform to education? Data from the internet, print and broadcast resources, responses and commentary from the education community and the academic literature will be vetted and analyzed for ways the Obama stimulus package might be accessed for educational research that would bring innovations to groups of teachers and students. Success of the project will be determined by a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the resources developed by the Obama administration, who determines the allocation of resources, and how the resources are allocated. Results will be shared at the Student Research Conference on April 7, 2009.
