RoboClaw--A Semi-Autonomous Robot That Sees: Programming a Lego Mindstorms Robot in Java
Dana M. Schoonover
Dr. Jon Beck, Faculty Mentor

RoboClaw (Rob) is a semi-autonomous robot made of Legos. He hangs from and moves along a cable on a sheave, and uses a digital camera as an eye so that he can see and pick up/drop objects in their proper locations. Rob operates completely on a tiny computer inside a large lego brick called the RCX, except for the camera whose image processing is done on the PC and information transmitted back to Rob via an infra-red signal. I will be demonstrating the completed project, as well as giving information regarding the process of building and programming Rob and detailing several of the larger obstacles to reaching the final product.
