Creating an Educational CD-ROM for State-Wide Long-Term Care Ombudsman Recruitment
Tara L. Osseck*, Emily M. Krogmann, and Nicole M. Stevens
Dr. Carol Cox, Faculty Mentor

The purpose of this project was to provide awareness/education about the MO Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program to the leaders of service clubs and volunteer agencies interested in having members serve as Ombudsmen. Gamma Rho Chapter created, produced, and mailed 500 educational CD-ROMs to assist volunteer organization leaders with the steps members can take to become Ombudsmen. Effect on knowledge, awareness/attitude, and behavior of leaders about the program was tested and evaluated via telephone surveys. A study of administrators’ perceptions showed that only 52.1% of respondents currently housed an Ombudsman in their facility, indicating a huge need for the Ombudsman volunteers in Missouri. Health educators can improve the quality of care and life for Missouri long-term care residents by increasing the number of Volunteer Ombudsmen through public education. At the end of the poster session, participants will be able to describe how to create a CD-ROM for a health education campaign.
