Gaspar Cassadó and His Toccata for Cello and Piano
Bich N. Kuhns♦
Dr. Miranora O. Frisch, Faculty Mentor

Gaspar Cassadó was a famous Spanish cellist, composer, and arranger. His Toccata for Cello highlights the lyrical and virtuosic abilities of the cello which will be demonstrated through a performance of the piece. The musical structure and components of the piece will be discussed as well as controversy regarding the Tocatta’s actual composer. Arguments supporting the theory that Cassadó composed (rather than simply arranged) the piece will be presented.
