The State of Advising at Truman State University
Joshua B. Kelly*, William B. Leeds, and Mark Kamphoefner
Dr. Scott Alberts, Faculty Mentor
During the spring 2006 semester, an online survey was given to determine student and faculty viewpoints on the state of academic advising at Truman State University. Three separate surveys were given, one to students who had faculty (major) advisors, one to students who had RCP advisors, and one to faculty advisors. Respondents were asked to evaluate their advising experience at Truman. The surveys were not identical but contained some similar questions with the intent of making direct comparisons between the three groups. Nonparametric statistical analyses were performed on the dataset to look for possible areas of improvement in the advising process.
