The Use of Music in the General Elementary School Classroom
The impact that music has on the brain is a widely researched topic. At a young age, music making activities have the ability to impact speech and language recognition, which carries through to the elementary years with regards to reading comprehension, reading fluency, mathematics, and speech and language development. Many studies have also demonstrated the positive impact both passive and active music listening practices have on learning general education material. Beyond the academic benefits of both music making and music listening activities, incorporating music into the general education classroom also has emotional regulation and social-emotional learning benefits. This presentation will discuss the positive applications of music in the general education classroom.
