Comprehension of action verbs can be particularly challenging for many children and adults. A research group of Communication Disorders majors identified Finding Nemo verb clips using a DVD book-marking tool (Bookmark DVD). This tool allows teachers or clinicians to identify in advance exactly the video segment needed for a lesson, and to play those segments on demand during instruction. The Bookmark DVD tool is not content specific, so many learning outcomes can be addressed. It is our expectation that children using the tool with a clinician/teacher will learn as well or better from the rich stimuli of a DVD as they would from traditional still picture materials. The question we are exploring is how can traditional therapy activities be enhanced with addition of the sound, music, and action of a DVD under the control of a clinician/teacher? Demonstrations, manipulatives, and crafts will be included in this presentation.
