The Relationship Between Academic Motivation, Self-Esteem, and Academic Procrastination in College Students
Nicole M. Lekich♦
Dr. Christopher Maglio, Faculty Mentor

The purpose of this study was to determine if there is a relationship between motivation, self-esteem, and procrastination in college students. Students completed the Procrastination Scale for Student Populations, Rosenberg’s Self-Esteem Scale, and the Academic Intrinsic Motivation Scale. It was hypothesized that intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, and self-esteem would each negatively correlate with procrastination. It was also hypothesized that intrinsically motivated students with high self-esteem would score the lowest on the measure of procrastination and that extrinsically motivated students with low self-esteem would score the highest on the measure of procrastination. Results are pending.
