The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of a multimedia study tool on the acquisition of sign language by college students. A multimedia tutorial, including sign language movie clips, was developed to match the content of CMDS 475 Sign Language. This single group comparison study compared the performance of students using the multimedia computer program (experimental group) to the performance of students studying from traditional printed media (control group). This study addressed the question, “Will the use of a multimedia study tool result in more correctly identified sign language words than traditional print media?” In addition, student preferences and attitudes regarding use of multimedia sign language tools were surveyed. A secondary purpose of the project was for the student researchers to become more familiar with multimedia development. The program used in this study will be available for previewing during the poster session discussion period.
