Forced Induction in Modern Gasoline Engines
Turbochargers and superchargers provide alternative ways to harness excess energy in gasoline engines. Turbochargers recycle energy otherwise lost with the exhaust, while superchargers grab energy directly from the crankshaft in enhancing engine performance. They vary significantly with respect to the method they use to generate power, and their efficiency in creating it. In this talk, we compare the two power-boosting methods across a range of levels of engine performance, and we investigate recent innovations in the two technologies. We will explain why the performance car world is moving more towards the turbocharger, as well as why many modern car manufacturers are using turbochargers to make their cars more efficient. Finally, we will share why there are still many performance vehicles being manufactured today that use superchargers.
