The Effects of Gender, Race, Religion, Socioeconomic Status, and Socialization on Political Identification and Specific Policy Support
Voting in America is an important civic duty, so what determines how a person chooses to vote? Prior research has determined that gender, race, religion, socioeconomic status, and socialzation all play a role, but to what extent is unclear, and how they work together is even moreso. I conducted surveys to gather information about the respondents' demographics and their political preferences in order to answer my reserach questions: How do factors such as gender, race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, religion, and past experiences/socialization affect which political party a person identifies with? How do these factors affect which specific policies a person supports? My findings showed that respondent's father's political party and socioeconomic status affects political party affiliation, but there is still much more research to be done.
