Innately Mine

Like many other women, I grew up hating my body and always had a negative outlook on my appearance. However, that recently changed after I returned home from a semester abroad in Europe. There, they view the body with much more indifference. Everyone has a body and it’s not something that’s viewed as controversial. So to live there for a semester made me reflect on the way I viewed myself and I decided that I no longer wanted to have a negative relationship with my body. This body of work is a way for me to express that positivity and spark conversation about the normality of having such a non-model body. I wanted to create images that focus on imperfections but still make the body beautiful to look at. Everyone has a body, and I’m sure that almost everyone thinks they have something imperfect or wrong about it. There is more meaning to bodies than just the aesthetics of looking “good.”
