Barth as Found in Calvinist Denominations' Position Statements on Homosexuality

Kellan S. Mooi
Dr. William Ashcraft, Faculty Mentor

At a time when many Christian denominations are splitting as a result of differing views on issues surrounding homosexuality, it seems pertinent to identify a unifying bond among three Calvinist denominations. This work will address position statements on homosexuality made by the theologically conservative Presbyterian Church in America, the moderate Reformed Church in America, and the theologically liberal United Church of Christ, and will ultimately attempt to show the relevancy of Karl Barth’s “Divine Command” biblical hermeneutic despite the diversity of each denomination’s theology on homosexuality.
