Tree Sweat: What is Really in Our Atmosphere?
Sulfate esters are aerosolized compounds prevalent throughout the atmosphere, yet their properties are not entirely understood. It is known that they act as global cooling agents and possible cloud nucleation sites. Tertiary isoprene sulfate is the most abundant isoprene-derived organosulfate. Herein, a total synthesis is proposed for tertiary isoprene sulfate, starting from the commercially available compound isoprene monoxide.
