Into the Mind of Mustafa Sa'eed: A Look at Season of Migration to the North through Tayeb Salih's Feminist Lens

Brian J. Hennessy
Dr. Hena Ahmad, Faculty Mentor

Tayeb Salih’s Season of Migration to the North is a story of the duality of viewpoints of those affected by colonialism. The story follows a man, the tragic Mustafa Sa'eed, who, as a product of British colonial education lashes out through living an abusive, scandalous lifestyle while living in England. His many relationships through the novel are fragile and all end in tragedy. This research essay will examine Mustafa Sa’eed’s character through the lens of feminist theory, in an attempt to explain why he acts the way he does through the novel. Specifically, analysis will be done through the feminist explanation for toxic male pathology.
