Research has shown college students have limited knowledge about healthcare, and young adults report finding it difficult to navigate health insurance. Thus, the purpose of this study is to qualitatively explore Truman students’ perceptions and knowledge about healthcare and identify what Truman students want in an educational program about healthcare. These questions were explored in three focus groups. Each focus group was recorded and transcribed verbatim. The focus group data was analyzed using an inductive approach to coding. Preliminary findings suggest Truman students do not feel proficient in their knowledge about healthcare, but they place importance on learning more about our healthcare system and health insurance in general. Participants identified potential channels for educating campus about healthcare. Based on these results an educational campaign is being developed, culminating in a campus-wide workshop at the end of the spring 2018 semester.
