Fieldwork is an integral part of nursing education, with experiences ranging across the spectrum from provision of care for well individuals to the acutely ill, and takes place in a variety of settings from community sites such as the home or schools to acute care hospitals. One recently developed immersive pediatric nursing clinical experience has repeatedly been described as "transformative", "life-changing", and "engaging", by baccalaureate nursing students. This qualitative study explored how and in what ways students? perspective and approach to nursing was changed through this and other clinical or fieldwork experiences. Content analysis of qualitative data, including written student reflections and focus group transcripts was conducted using constant comparative methods. Themes identified through this study provide a broader understanding of how transformation occurs through fieldwork, allowing for more intentional modification of existing and development of future clinical experiences.
