Gender Identity and Sexuality in the Asian-American Community
Lindsay N. Lamp
Dr. Huping Ling, Faculty Mentor
In this research, the issue of gender identity and sexuality among Asian-American citizens is analyzed through in-depth interviews with members of the LGBTQA community. In the mainstream media, the representation of this community is incredibly scarce which can lead to prejudicial attitudes among the uninformed. Over the course of the interviews, participants were asked questions about their personal experiences, noting differences in their interactions with their friends, families, and public as they went through the process of coming out and transitioning. From these experiences, a discussion is created about how to address mistreatment and equality issues in a society where beliefs and values exist across an enormous spectrum.
