The Sanity of Insanity: A Psychoanalytical Critique of the Savage and the Civilized in Brave New World
Garrett Bradley
Dr. Hena Ahmad, Faculty Mentor

Brave New World exemplifies order, stability, and regulation. The advanced Alphas, portrayed as the most genetically perfect engineered humans, contrast the depiction of Savage Reservations. The Savages, who are kept in zoo-like communities, completely cut-off from the outside world, develop differently. With the introduction of John the Savage to the World State the societal differences are brought to a fever-pitch as John struggles to find a place in a society he doesnt understand. Those who reside in the World State are conditioned to believe that it is perfect because each person has no free will, but instead has their rightful place. Through psychoanalytic examination will demonstrate that Huxley has not only created a not only an "ideally perfect society," but actually predicted a society that is not so implausible.
