The Cemetery Project
Kimberly A. Allen
Dr. Anton Daughters, Faculty Mentor

Over the years the popularity of certain names have changed. This project was designed to find patterns between the time period a person was born and what their name was. Using the online cemetery records, data was compiled on the subjects buried in Kirksville, to assess if there were any correlations between the year someone was born and their name. Based on a sample of 280 people there were no correlations between a persons name and the year they were born, however when you reduced the name to just the first letter you find that there is a correlation between the first letter of a name and the year a person was born. If this data was expanded on, then it could perhaps predict the first letter of names that could become popular for people in the future, based on how the popularity of those letters have changed over time.
