Light Curve Analysis of Six β-Lyrae Type Variables

Eclipsing binary systems consist of two orbiting stars with a special orientation that results in one star passing in front of the other. Monitoring the brightness of these unique systems results in light curves that give information about the dynamics of such systems. We present light curve analysis of six eclipsing binary stars: NSVS 5344676, V1071 Her, NSVS 5508151, NSVS 9064159, NSVS 9091101, and NSVS 3714875. These objects are selected from a list of new Beta-Lyrae type candidates published in a paper by Hoffman et al (2008). Light curves are generated using data collected at the Truman State Observatory in the summer and fall of 2014. We compare the classification of our targets to the ones presented by Hoffman et al. We conclude that the first object, previously classified only as a variable star, should be updated to the status of an Algol-type eclipsing binary. We confirm Hoffman et als classification of the other five objects as Beta-Lyrae eclipsing binaries.
