"The World Forgetting By The World Forgot": A Psychoanalytical Criticism of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a film about consciousness and its relation to memory suppression. This 2004 film observes Lacuna, Inc's. operation in which technicians delete memories from the minds of people who come to them to have their memories erased. Memory cognition, consciousness, past experiences, and setbacks form an individual's persona and thus, memories stored within a person become a large portion of the equation that yields their free-thinking mind. A Freudian psychoanalytical analysis of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind will bring to light the effects of memory suppression on one's consciousness.
