Photographic Body of Work: Pictures From the Road
Gretchen C. Kucera
Prof. Priya S. Kambli, Faculty Mentor
Although I get most of my stubborn, passive aggressive personality from my fathers side of the family, the one thing I inherited from my late grandfather was his love of driving. Growing up at his feet, he would take me out in his Chevrolet, whose musky dashboard permanently smelled of tobacco and sunflower seeds, whose static radio never seemed to play anything but folk tunes, and that window that squeaked in resistance when you tried to roll it down. My stubby legs were too short to reach the step, so he would hoist me up and sit me beside him as he drove through miles of dust and cornfields in each humid Nebraska summer. This is the opening paragraph of my artist statement. After reading the statement in its entirety, I will present my body of work, Pictures from the Road, that I developed in my Creative Photography class.
