Blank Page: An Exploration of Poetry and Empty Space
Marisa A. Gearin
Dr. James D'Agostino, Faculty Mentor
Poetry is such a diverse field that there are few factors all poems share; however, written poetry in nearly every case is composed of words arranged on the page in a particular way. I propose to write a collection of poems exploring the tension between poetic text and the white space which surrounds it. These poems will play with space in various ways, including nontraditional layout and missing words. They will illustrate that what is not written can be just as significant as what is.
