Playing the Deck: A Study in the Fluidity of Poetry and Identity
Savannah St. Augustine
Dr. James D'Agostino, Faculty Mentor
Robert Frost described the process of writing a poem as beginning "as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness." Due to this process, poetry has a way of weaving itself in our lives. This project explores how both poetry and the identity within can have more than one configuration and explanation. Considering the definitions of authorship, the idea of "poetic identity" will be discussed through the process of finding oneself. Who is the poet behind the piece?
