Sustainability and the Truman State University Community: Current Perceptions and Future Implications

This study aims to explore where the Truman population stands in regards to issues of sustainability. More specifically, this study looks at what current characteristics, trends, and ideas might influence how an institutional initiative, such as a Green Revolving Fund (GRF), could be implemented on the Truman State University Campus. The study was comprised of data from 147 members of the Truman community students, faculty, and staff who filled out a 27 question survey gauging personal opinion of environmental issues, value of sustainability, knowledge of GRFs, personal cost, and the feasibility, urgency, and support of GRFs. The results of this study found that the members of the Truman Community while supportive of sustainability initiatives, were somewhat inactive in regards to implementation. Additionally, low satisfaction rates with current initiatives indicate that an approach that is more integrative and salient to the individual should be explored.
